Ski mountaineering in Zube and in Val d’Otro: more than you could ever imagine

If your philosophy of life is anything but a cliché, expect the unexpected of experiences when you decide to go ski mountaineering in Zube and in the magical Otro valley. We offer easy but off-track routes, with an overnight stay in a real hut, where time is suspended, and adventure is right outside the door. Choose this route if you want an alternative weekend; for many but not for everyone.

Program

1st day

Rendezvous in Alagna at our office or in Gressoney at the Staffal ticket office at 8.30. Equipment-check and distribution of technical material. Off-piste skiing with an introduction to ski mountaineering on the off-piste slopes of Monterosaski. We will start you off on easy terrain to teach you, then move on to the more difficult ones to challenge you followed by fantastic descents to keep you entertained! Dinner and overnight at the Gabiet refuge.

2nd day

Your day will start with some off-piste-skiing in the morning to warm up your legs before attaching skins to your skis for a 2 hour circa climb of Colle di Zube and Corno Rosso. You will descend into the Otro valley on the gentle slopes between the Foric, Pianmisura and Weng mountain huts. Dinner and overnight stay in Otro at the Zar Senni mountain hut, a mecca for connoisseurs of the Walser Green Paradise

3rd day

Ascent to the garden of Otro, dominated by the imposing north face of the Corno Bianco, which was once a heliski landing, but today it is a protected wildlife reserve, where only the tracks of skiers are the exception to the rule. You will ski on the last fossil glacier of Monte Rosa, which is why combined with the northern exposure, the snow is more than often of excellent quality. Dinner and overnight at the Zar Senni mountain hut

4th day

Climb to the Passo dell'Uomo Selvatico, the little pass above the Pianmisura mountain pasture (1/1: 30 ascent) from where the view of Monte Rosa is simply magnificent and then descend through the centuries-old woods of D'Zender to return to Alagna with the absolute certainty you are hooked on ski mountaineering!

The programme can be modified on a daily basis by the Guide with the consensus of the participants, taking the weather, snow conditions and the technical level of the group into account.
