Experiencing true high-mountain ski mountaineering at Punta Giordani, one of the iconic 4000-meter peaks of Monte Rosa, is an unmissable adventure. From the summit, you’ll be surrounded by the beauty of the skiable peaks of the Alps, making it an ideal starting point for planning new ski mountaineering adventures across the Monte Rosa range.

Starting from the Punta Indren station at 3275 meters, you’ll immediately put on your skis with skins. The vast slope will unfold before you, with an increasing gradient up to 3800 meters, before becoming gentler. As you ascend, the views will open wide, letting you forget the effort and fill you with awe.

Whether it’s your first time tackling a 4000-meter peak or you’ve already experienced the thrill of ski mountaineering on Monte Rosa, the atmosphere at this altitude will be magical, and every breath will feel unique. At 4000 meters, after removing your skis, a short final climb will take you to one of the most spectacular viewpoints of the Alps, where your gaze will stretch as far as Lake Garda.

The descent will be pure excitement: first, we’ll look for the best snow to ski down to 3300 meters. From there, we’ll choose whether to descend the Alagna side, crossing the Bors glacier and the famous Valsesia channels, or the Gressoney side, through the Canale dell’Aquila, Canal Grande, Stolemberg, or Colle della Salza.

Each turn will demand precision and control, but this will be the key to living an unforgettable adventure. Spectacular landscapes and dream descents await — a perfect experience for those who want to feel the essence of ski mountaineering Monte Rosa.

Program

Day 0

5:00 PM: Briefing with your IFMGA guide. The briefing can take place in the office, via video call, or over the phone, depending on your preference. We want to get to know you to ensure we understand your expectations. We will check the details of your equipment and prepare the plan for the following day, taking into account training, weather, and snow conditions.

Day 1

You will begin your ski mountaineering adventure by meeting your guide at Passo dei Salati. As we check the equipment together, the adrenaline will start to rise in anticipation of reaching Punta Indren with the Monterosaski lifts. From the Punta Indren cable car station at 3275 meters, you will put on your skins and unlock your heels, then we’ll start ascending for about 3 hours toward Punta Giordani. Once we reach the summit, the effort will be rewarded with an unforgettable descent!

  • The Monte Rosa guides may modify itineraries and activity programs based on weather conditions, accessibility of huts, and the physical preparation of participants.
  • The timeframes for activities may vary due to weather conditions and the physical state of the locations (snow coverage, ground conditions, etc.).

Facing a ski mountaineering ascent requires a combination of technical skills and physical endurance. While the ability to ski on a black run may indicate a good level of technical preparation, ski mountaineering also requires comprehensive physical training and a strong ability to adapt to the mountain’s variable conditions.
