On 19 June 2022 Alagna celebrated the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Guide Corps. This event is a source of great pride for Alagna, whose history is closely linked to its beloved mountain, Monte Rosa.
In 1872 the association of Alagna Alpine Guides was established with the patronage of CAI Varallo, four years after that of Courmayeur, thus becoming the second Guides corps in Italy.
There were eight founders: Giovanni Barone, Giuseppe Guglielmina and Carlo Martinale from Alagna, Antonio Bruno from Riva Valdobbia, Giovanni Gamba, Giacomo Valenti, Giorgio Mo Allagranzina and Giovanni Mo Costabella from the lower valley.
In 1989, with the recognition of their profession, our mountain and ski guides became the reference point for all activities on Monte Rosa: off-piste skiing, ski touring, sport climbing, mountaineering, trekking and ice climbing.
