From 0 to 4000 - approach to mountaineering. Training course to prepare the Capanna Margherita ascent

Mountain climbing is your passion, and you want to take that next step, but you're not sure where to begin?
Our approach to mountaineering course is perfect for you: three days to start acclimatizing to altitude, learn to take your first steps on a glacier, and reach your first 4,000-meter peak!

You don't need prior experience; all you require is good physical fitness and a bit of training, Monte Rosa guides will take care of the rest.
The course will provide you with the fundamentals to define your future goals, such as reaching Capanna Margherita, the highest hut in Europe.

Program

First day

Meeting in the morning at the Monterosa Booking - Alagna.it offices. Equipment check and distribution of technical gear. Ascent by cable car to Passo dei Salati, where we will meet the guide at 2:30 PM. We will then use the ski lifts to reach Punta Indren (3260 m) and continue on foot to Rifugio Città di Mantova, where we should arrive by 5:00 PM. We will approach the route, which is short and not too demanding, with a relaxed pace and long breaks to acclimate to the altitude and mitigate any potential altitude sickness issues caused by the elevation gain of over 1000 meters, which is covered in just 30 minutes by cable car. Dinner and overnight stay.

Second day

A day of the course dedicated to getting to know the glacier, learning how to use crampons, and understanding safety techniques for moving in high mountains. Dinner and overnight stay at Rifugio Città di Mantova.

Third day

The objective of this day is to reach your first 4,000-meter peak, such as Punta Vincent (4,215 m), one of the first summits of Monte Rosa from where you will enjoy a magnificent view. The specific summit you'll reach will depend on the experience and physical fitness of your group, as well as the weather and glacier conditions. In any case, you will return home with an understanding of what mountaineering is and whether you are ready for the next step, which is ascending to Capanna Margherita.
