Grande Halte Mountain Hut, also known as Rifugio Città di Mortara, is located at Alpe Seewji in the heart of the Monterosa Ski area. Originally built in the early 1900s as a mountain hotel, it became an important stop for climbers heading to Col d'Olen and Capanna Margherita. Since 1946, the refuge has been owned by the Mortara Section of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), which has carefully preserved its history and heritage.
Today, Grande Halte Mountain Hut welcomes hikers, skiers, and mountain lovers with the perfect balance of traditional Alpine charm and modern comfort. Our team is committed to providing genuine hospitality and a memorable dining experience. Every dish, from starters to desserts, is freshly prepared on site, while the wine cellar features an excellent selection of local mountain wines alongside some of Italy's finest labels.
The recent renovation of Grande Halte Mountain Hut has carefully preserved its historic character while enhancing guests' comfort. Original furnishings, natural wood, stone walls, exposed beams, and a welcoming fireplace create the warm atmosphere of a traditional Alpine refuge. Whether you are returning from the ski slopes or a day of hiking, the refuge offers an authentic mountain experience where history, nature, and hospitality come together.
