The most beautiful ring between Val d’Aosta and Piedmont is around the Gran Paradiso. Finding out whether it is the celestial Jerusalem that is hidden on the summit or the view of a glacial cirque of extreme beauty is our goal. We like the Gran Paradiso haute route because it is a true ski mountaineering route, which has the flavor of discovery and adventure and can tell the story of early ski mountaineering.

Day 1

Transfer to Cogne and ascent to Rifugio Sella (2,584 m) Meeting in the morning and transfer to Cogne. Departure from the Valnontey hamlet towards the Vittorio Sella refuge (2584m) which can be reached after about 3 hours of climbing. Ascent: 918m Time: 3 hours

Day 2

Gran Serra (3,552 m) – Chabod refuge (2,750 m) We begin the ascent to the top of Gran Serra (3552m), a short technical descent in the isolated valley of Tymorion and ascent to Colle del Gran Neyron (3400m), to reach the north faces of Colle di Montandaynè, Piccolo and Gran Paradise. We end the day with a descent to the comfortable Chabod refuge (2750m). Ascent: 1,370m Descent: 1,250m Time: 7 hours

Day 3

Ascent to Gran Paradiso (4,061 m) – Descent to Vittorio Emanuele Hut (2,730 m) The most challenging leg day of our tour. Crossing the Laveciau glacier and climbing the long ridge known as the donkey’s back, you arrive at the easy rocks that lead to the summit of Gran Paradiso. After a break to enjoy the 360° view from the top, the descent towards the historic Vittorio Emanuele II refuge (2730m) begins. Ascent: 1,311m Descent: 1,330m Time: 6 hours

You enter the Piedmontese territory through the Colle del Gran Paradiso (3345m) and then descend into Noaschetta valley up to the Ivrea bivouac at 2745m. Ascent to Colle dei Becchi (2990m) and descent to the Pontese refuge (2200m) in the Piantonetto valley. Ascent: 930m Descent: 1,200m Time: 7 hours

Day 5

Crossing Teleccio pass (3,304 m) Last stop. Still 1100 m in altitude in front of the walls of Becco di Valsoera and Gran San Pietro that have made generations of mountaineers dream. We will arrive as far as Colle del Teleccio (3304) and then down through the Valeille to arrive at the village of Lillaz. From here it takes about 15 minutes by car to return to the starting point in Valnontey. Ascent: 1,100m Descent: 1,750m Time: 6 hours
