Scopello

A famous tourist spot of the 60’s, Scopello (659 mt above sea level) has experienced a discreet increase in urban growth due to an increase in holiday homes.

The camping area was the site of the ancient “Regie Fonderie” (the Royal Foundary) where you can still see traces and remains of the blast furnace chimney that was 15 mt tall.

This was where the coins of the Royal House of the Savoia were minted and in the 19th century they manufactured the cannon balls for Napoleon’s army!

However, that which made Scopello famous is without a doubt Alpe di Mera, with its slopes and ski lifts which are also open during the Summer for tourists and hikers. Like many villages in the valley, the Parish Church dedicated to the 16th century Saint Assumption is worth a visit.
