Capanna Margherita in winter is wonderful

The ascent to Capanna Margherita, the highest refuge in Europe, is one of the most coveted and exciting experiences for mountain enthusiasts. From the top of Punta Gnifetti at 4554 m, your gaze sweeps down from the dizzying south face of Monte Rosa over Alagna and Valsesia, losing itself from the Po valley to the Maritime Alps. In winter, even if only winter rooms are open, reaching the refuge is possible on skis, relying on the safe guidance of the Monterosa guides.
Guides are the ones who will help you find the best route to reach Refuge Margherita, relying your safety to a professional and your desires to the passion of those born in these mountains.

Program

1st day

Rendezvous in our office in Alagna or Gressoney at 9 am for an equipment check and distribution of needed technical materials. Then, off-piste skiing with an introduction to ski touring and skinning uphill in the early afternoon to Capanna Gnifetti where we should arrive around 4 pm. We will do the short and not too demanding route from Indren to Gnifetti, with calm, long breaks so you can enjoy the view and gradually acclimatize. Dinner & overnight.

2nd day

Your excursion continues with the ascent to Capanna Margherita in the early morning, in a roped party, and assisted by your guide who will accompany you on this memorable journey. We will arrive at Capanna Margherita around mid-morning and after the routine photo shoot, return to Alagna or Gressoney with a descent of 3200 m.

The program could undergo daily changes made by the guide, with the agreement of the participants, taking into account snow and weather conditions
