Perched on the right bank of the river Flua, near the rock that supports the massive lateral moraine of the glacier Sesia-Locce, is an eagle's nest overlooking the valley. This refuge was built in 1966 by CAI of Vercelli with the financial contribution of the family Barba (in memory of Nino, long-time president of the Vercelli Section) and the Ferrero family (in memory of his son Luciano, a young climber who died of a serious illness), and was inaugurated 1 September 1968, and since then it is known as Barba Ferrero. Today it is run by Refuge Monterosa srl and Andrea who made it a refuge of excellence thanks to his originality and likeable character.

Leave the car at the Wold parking. During summer, there is a shuttle service to the Acqua Bianca Place: the starting point of the three paths 7, 7d and 7e that reach the shelter 2 hours.
