The church of Alagna became a parish church in 1475 when it was separated from St. Michele’s church of Riva Valdobbia. Today it is a very important example of mannerist elaboration of late Gothic and Renaissance shapes. Inside the church there are many works of art among which the beautiful wooden altar which was commissioned in 1680.
The parish priest of Alagna, Don Carlo Elgo, a passionate mountaineer and expert skier, has several mountaineering ascents on his CV and the record of more than 120 ascents to the Capanna Margherita.
Now, after having been the guide of the village's Catholic community since 1980, he has retired to give way to Don Alberto, reference point for all the parishes in the Upper Valley.
